July 2019 KCUC Meeting

 

Daren Thompson of Lebanon Water Works and Troy Smith of Louisville MSD will discuss “Growth of Construction Career Days”, an overview of the annual effort to introduce high school students to the construction industry in a 2-day event at the Shelby County Fairgrounds.

About Our Guest Speaker

Daren Thompson is the Operations & Management Superintendent of Lebanon Water Works Company in Lebanon, Kentucky since 2016. He manages staff and assets to treat and distribute drinking water to the 2,600 residential, commercial, and industrial customers of the Lebanon Water Works Company as well as provide finished water to the Marion County Water District.
Daren previously was the Flood Protection Manager for the Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD).

Daren earned a B.S. in Construction Management from ITT Technical Institute and an MBA from Sullivan University.

Daren is active in several local and regional construction organizations, including SkillsUSA Kentucky, ACE Mentor Program Louisville, and Construction Users Roundtable (CURT) Young Professionals. He serves as a Board Director for Kentuckiana Construction Users Council (KCUC) and Chair of the Board of Kentucky Construction Career Choice Council (K4C), which coordinates Construction Career Days.

Troy Smith is Operations Efficiency and Capital Program Administrator of Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD). Troy leads a team of 14 people in daily operations, with up to 30 people at times of emergency. Recent projects include facilitation/coordination work on a geothermal system and addition of a cooling tower for MSD’s largest building. Troy previously spent 15 years as Operations Supervisor at MSD.

Troy serves as a Board Director for Kentuckiana Construction Users Council (KCUC) and Kentucky Construction Career Choice Council (K4C), and annually participates as a judge for the Carpentry Competition of SkillsUSA Kentucky.
